M1/M2 Sport,
M1/M2 Hard Core,
& M1/M2 Hard Core Hard Top

****Sports Cars, Etc. Note: The Hard Dog M1 & M2 roll bars are very similar. All the important details are in their lower descriptions, but here is a quick summary: The M1 bars are described as specifically designed for the '90-'94 Miata, while the M2 bars are described as written for the '99-'05 Miata. This description can be misleading. Basically, the M2 bar is able to work with a glass window top like what the later model cars came with, while the M1 only works with plastic window cars. When purchasing the bar, focus on which type of window you have in your soft top versus the year of the vehicle and you'll get it right. If you think you'll ever install a glass window top in your car, go ahead and get an M2 version of the bar.

After that you have the Sport vs. the Hard Core; the Sport uses a smaller diameter tube, and is compatible with the factory hard top. The Hard Core uses larger diameter tubes and is NOT compatible with hard tops.

For those looking for a bigger diameter tube and hard top compatibility, you'll need to go for the Hard Core Hard Top variant.

The M1 Sport
From the desk of Hard Dog:
The Sport series of bars were designed for safety and low impact on vehicle utility. Chosen by Mazda North America for their Laguna Seca NB pace car and Mazdaspeep track car prototype. The Sport uses the same main hoop and rear brace structure as our Cage models and meets SCCA Time Trial safety requirements when equipped with diagonal bracing.
The M1 Sport fits 1990 - 2005 Miata chassis when fitted with a plastic rear window convertible top. Not compatible with glass rear window soft tops. One or two main hoop diagonal braces and / or a harness bar may be added.
Mazda Hard Top compatible with stock latches
Compatible with stock seat belts

Features include:
  • Legal for SCCA Time Trials Events when equipped with at least one diagonal brace
  • Allows full seat travel and tilt
  • Fits 1990 - 2005 Miata chassis
  • Full interior height and width; farther to the rear than the hard core allowing better head clearance

The M1 Hardcore
From the desk of Hard Dog:
The Hard Core Series of bars are designed to meet SCCA Solo 1, SCCA Time Trials and NASA HPDE safety requirements for the competitor that wants to maintain a dual purpose car for street and track events.
The M1 Hard Core models fit all Miata chassis from 1990 - 2005 and are specifically designed for plastic rear window convertible tops. Not compatible with glass rear window soft tops.
The Single and Double Diagonal versions of the M1 Hard Core Bars are built with an integral harness bar as standard equipment
There's no room for a PROPER straight integral harness bar with the X Brace optimized diagonal angles. A Bolt-In Harness Bar is required for shoulder strap mounting with the X Brace.
The Standard M1 Hard Core is the tallest design possible with a functional top but not necessarily the best choice for tall drivers using stock seats because of the more forward placement of the main hoop. We recommend the Hard Core Hardtop version or Sport models for most drivers over 5' 9" with unmodified stock seats.
The Standard M1 Hard Core is NOT designed for use with a hard top.

Features Include:
  • Full interior width
  • Complete use of plastic rear window soft tops
  • Single main hoop diagonal brace and harness bar standard
  • Second main hoop diagonal brace may be added for extra strength and better rear vision
  • X Brace version for the strongest bar available *
  • Durable black powdercoat finish
  • Constructed of highest quality 1.75" diam x .120" wall 1026 alloy drawn over mandrel tubing
  • Laser cut 3/16" mounting and back-up plates
  • Complete hardware kit w/ grade 8 bolts
