Cosworth Supercharger Kit

Sorry, but this product is currently no longer produced. Magnuson Superchargers is capable of producing more kits, but there are no parts suppliers currently able to invest in a run of new kits. There is no ETA on exactly if/when the availability will return.

The third generation of Mazda's Miata has a fantastic chassis, some very solid brakes, and a solid powerplant. Fresh off the showroom floor these cars are reasonably peppy. Still, there's a difference between peppy and truly fast. This addition makes the NC Miata fast indeed. So what is fast? The average NC will go from roughly 130-140hp at the wheels to roughly 220-240hp at the wheels. It's most commonly described by our customers as, "It's like I have a V6 now. There's power everywhere."

The hardware of the kit was a joint effort between Magnuson superchargers and Cosworth, and therefore has some of the highest quality for fit and finish of any forced induction kit for any vehicle on the market. The cold-side MP62 supercharger was provided by Magnuson along with a custom cast intake manifold with water-to-air intercooling manifold built in thanks to Cosworth. There are probably a few kits for other cars that look more factory, but not many. In fact, lots of folks believe this kit was being developed as a factory option to create the "Mazdaspeed Miata" that never came to be. The fit and finish really are that good.

Originally, while the hardware was solid, the first kits from Cosworth suffered from a rash of engine failures due to poor tuning. Since that time the kits have proven to be very reliable as long as you have a proper tune. The good news is better computer tuning has been developed since those early days. Flyin' Miata paired up with tuning specialists Dynotronics, and can now provide a tune that is just as bullet proof as the rest of the kit. These kits are now used in race and track day applications every weekend, with nary an issue. The tuning/reflash service will require the purchase of the data cable, but the cable can be returned after the tuning process is over.

This kit uses the stock computer already in the car. Dynotronics, using their ECUtek software, reprogram the computers timing and fuel mapping to work with the supercharger. With the rest of the factory programming left untouched the tune and drive-ability of the car remains very good, while still keeping the car's engine safe.  Another advantage of keeping the stock computer is this kit is emissions legal in almost every state (sorry California, you never get the cool stuff). With proper reprogramming of the vehicle's stock computer you have a much faster car with a very factory look and feel. While driving the car, you'll notice it still has that connected, confident small sports car dynamic. There are no harsh surges of power, no idle issues, nothing to indicate it has been modified. Simply put, the power is there when you need it, and stays well behaved when you don't want it.

The kit comes with everything needed for installation, including:
  • MP62 Supercharger and custom caste intake manifold
  • Water-to-air intercooler, pump, fluid reservoir, and relating piping.
  • New, up-sized fuel injectors
  • New, resized serpentine belt
  • New pulley bracket
  • Dynotronics data cable and interface controller (This can be returned within 30 days for partial refund.)
  • New intake piping to adapt to stock air box

                                                                                    Before you order!
HPMotors strongly recommends adding a boost gauge and wideband 02 sensor gauge to monitor your boost levels and air/fuel ratio behavior.

While you can return the Dynotronics data cable and interface, you should think about keeping it for any future tuning or changes. This kit can achieve even higher performance levels with the addition of a smaller pulley, but you will need to upgrade some other items and also retune. Some owners also enjoy the ability to customize their tunes on a bi-annual basis.

This kit will almost certainly need an upgraded clutch kit. You may hear differently, but we have not installed a kit yet where the customer did not quickly find themselves in need of a clutch. While the clutch is being replaced, you should consider a lightened aluminum flywheel. This piece pairs nicely with the kit, and helps the car feel that much more responsive.

This supercharger kit works really well with the Racing Beat 4-1 shorty header. They're a match made in heaven.

This kit is made available through us for people looking to have the kit installed and tuned on site by Sports Cars, Etc. While this kit can be purchased through us for delivery to your residence, it may change the estimated shipping charges or other details.

As stated, this kit should be emissions legal in 49 states, however it is up to the buyer to verify the legality of it's use in their state.  As always, please feel free call us with any questions you may have about fitment, additional parts, or shipping before ordering.
